MOSCOW, April 10. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed condolences to Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in connection with the death of a large number of people in a fire at a Hindu temple in the town of Paravur, the Kremlin press service reported on Sunday.
The Russian president conveyed the words of sympathy and support to the families and friends of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
According to earlier reports, a huge fire broke out at Puttingal temple at Paravaur (Kollam District), in India’s Kerala state early Sunday morning leaving at least 102 people dead and 350 injured, local media said quoting latest police reports. The fire took place at around 03:30 am. According to reports, the fire could have been caused by a blast in the firework stockpile, readied for the temple celebrations. The police had earlier warned temple authorities to restrict usage of fireworks.
