MOSCOW, April 8. /TASS/. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has cut short the activity of an Islamist group in the southern Volgograd Region that was recruiting local residents for the Islamic State terrorist organization outlawed in Russia, the FSB press office said on Friday.
"The Federal Security Service has exposed the activity of the so-called Palassovka Jamaat with the assistance of interior ministry personnel on the territory of the town of Pallasovka in the Volgograd Region that was complicit in recruiting residents of the region for participation in the activity of the Islamic State international terrorist organization on the territory of Syria," the FSB press office said in a statement obtained by TASS.
During special measures, the FSB identified and detained five radical Islamists, including a member of that Islamist group who planned to commit a terrorist act in the region, the FSB press office said.
"Ammunition, explosives and other chemical components, striking elements of home-made explosives and literature of religious and extremist nature have been found at the place of their residence," the FSB press office said.
The FSB’s investigative department has instituted criminal proceedings on the signs of crimes stipulated by part 3, article 30 and part 2, article 208 (an attempt on organizing an illegal armed group) and part 1, article 205.1 of the Russian Criminal Code (assistance to terrorist activity), the FSB’s press office said.
"A set of urgent investigative and search measures is under way to make documented evidence of their unlawful activity," the FSB said.
