MOSCOW, April 4. /TASS/. Russian presidential envoy for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov has discussed during his working visit to Qatar the situation in the Middle Eastern settlement and on the Palestinian territories with Chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau Khaled Mashal, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
"During the talks, special attention was paid to the situation in the Middle Eastern settlement and the state of affairs on the Palestinian territories," the foreign ministry said. "The importance was confirmed of soonest restoration of Palestinian national accord as an important prerequisite for fulfilling true aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish their own independent state," the ministry added.
Bogdanov and Mashal also exchanged opinion on several other pressing issues with an emphasis on the settlement of the Syrian crisis.
It was earlier reported that on April 2-8 Bogdanov will hold ministerial consultations in Qatar, Kuwait and Egypt. He is also planned to meet with representatives of the Syrian opposition’s High Negotiations Committee.
