GENEVA, March 30./TASS/. Russia welcomes efforts towards establishing the negotiation process in Yemen, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told Tass on Wednesday.

The political process in Yemen "advances rather slowly, although the situation in this country causes very serious concerns, as the domestic conflict and bloodshed have continued for rather a long time," the top diplomat said.

"Earlier attempts to launch the political process [in Yemen], yielded no result, unfortunately," he said. "But now, as we understand it, there is a hope that this can happen. We welcome these efforts," the top diplomat added.

From the very start, Moscow was saying that "like in the Syrian conflict, there can be no military solution to the Yemeni situation," he said. "It is necessary to see the sides start the process of negotiations, sit down at the negotiating table," Gatilov said.

"The UN special envoy for Syria is acting in this direction, we expect that his effort will bring a positive result," he added.
