MOSCOW, March 12. /TASS/. The information reported in the media about discussions between Russia and the West on Syria's federalization is not true to life, Moscow does not voice idea of the kind, Russia's presidential envoy on the Middle East and North Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told TASS on Saturday.
"It is nonsense. We are not voicing ideas of the kind, such ideas should come from the Syrians, it is them who should be discussing between themselves (the state system - TASS) and reaching accord," he said.
"The issue of state system should be discussed by the Syrians themselves, they should make a constitution for their country and fix there what the power system should be like," he said.
"Our position is that it would be best to maintain the unity of territory and people, we do not interfere in this and do not present our position," the diplomat said.
Earlier, some media referring to diplomatic sources close to the UN reported Russia and some western countries were discussing federalization of Syria as an option to keep that country’s territory integrity.
The negotiations between the opposition and Syria’s government under mediation of the UN special envoy Staffan de Mistura are due in Geneva on March 14.
