Persons who planned terrorist attack in Moscow region get up to 14 years in prison

The defendants denied their involvement in the crime and insisted on the non-guilty verdict

MOSCOW, March 10. /TASS/. The Moscow District Military Court has sentenced on Thursday six persons accused of preparing a terrorist attack in the city of Odintsovo (in the Moscow region) on May 9, 2014, to prison terms ranging from 11 to 14 years. The court complemented the punishment for each of them with extra periods of restriction of liberty varying from 1 year to 1 year and 7 months, a TASS correspondent reported from the courtroom.

The court and investigators found out that Semed Nurmagomedov, Azim Ismailov, the Guseikhanov brothers - Vagid and Yusuf, the Rizakhanov brothers - Asret and Ildarkhan - planned to carry out a terrorist attack during Victory Day celebrations in the city of Odintsovo in 2014. For that end, they rented an apartment where they stored ammunition and an improvised explosive device. However, their criminal actions were terminated by the police.

The defendants were charged under Part 1 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 205 (preparation for the commission of a terrorist attack), Part 3 of Article 223 (illegal manufacture of firearms) and Article 22 of Russia’s Criminal Code (arms trafficking).

During the debate the prosecutor asked to find the defendants fully guilty of the charged offense and sentence them to prison terms varying from 13,5 to 14,5 years. According to the public prosecutor, the defendants’ guilt was fully proved during the trial. The defendants denied their involvement in the crime and insisted on the non-guilty verdict.
