MOSCOW, February 16. /TASS/. No party to the Syrian conflict can win a military victory, since national reconciliation is needed, a Russian expert said on Tuesday.
"Talks will be continued, but it will be a difficult diplomatic process," Vitaly Naumkin, research manager at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said in an interview with the Rossiiskaya Gazeta daily. "There is no other way out. Talks are needed anyway, since neither of the conflicting parties can win. National reconciliation is needed."
He said that some forces in the region were seeking to continue the war. "It is paying for them in terms of money. But I would not say that everybody in the region wanted to go on fighting," Naumkin said. "Because all, both the opposition and the government are tired of the conflict in Syria."
