Russia offers condolences to Indonesia over terror attacks in Jakarta

On January 14, multiple explosions and gunfire occurred near a shopping mall in central Jakarta, claiming lives of four citizens

MOSCOW, February 9. /TASS/. Russia’s Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev has expressed condolences to Indonesia over a series of terror attacks which rocked country’s capital Jakarta on January 14, the council’s press service said on Tuesday.

On February 9, a meeting between Patrushev and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan took place in Jakarta.

"Tragic events confirm the need to build up bilateral cooperation in the security sphere and fight against terrorism," the statement said.

On January 14, multiple explosions and gunfire occurred near a shopping mall in central Jakarta, claiming lives of four citizens. The police said two attackers were killed, other two terrorists blew themselves up.

The Islamic State (IS) terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack, Indonesian national Bahrun Naim is considered to be a mastermind of the crime. According to security services, Naim is associated with Indonesia’s radical terrorist group and currently thought to be in the Syrian city of Raqqa with the IS.
