AMSTERDAM, February 6. /TASS/. The European Union is in contact with Russia on Syria, Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders said Friday evening.

"We are discussing various important issues," Koenders said answering journalists’ questions after the first day of an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Amsterdam.

He did not specify what issues were being discussed and via which channels.

Speaking on the observation of humanitarian law in Syria, Koenders said the situation leaves much to be desired.

As a result of the conflict, many Syrian residents leave the country and move to the neighboring Turkey and from there to Europe.

The migration crisis will on Saturday become the key issue at the talks of European foreign ministers. EU countries on February 3 approved the establishment of a relief fund for Turkey worth 3 billion euros to fight migration. Turkey should in return limit the passage of refugees to Europe.
