ASHGABAD, January 27 /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov opened a new Russian embassy complex in Ashgabad, the capital of Turkmenistan, on Wednesday. A gala ceremony at which Russian and Turkmen national anthems were sang by students of a local school took place at the embassy’s main building with the presence of Sergey Lavrov, his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov and Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Alexander Blokhin.

"Dear friends, we are present at a very significant event. We have just toured the embassy complex. I think that it’s going to create all the conditions for good work and regeneration as well as for bringing up children and going in for sport. It is very nice that the splendid Ashgabad has got a new architectural structure, of which no one is going to be ashamed and which really inspires to new accomplishments," Lavrov, who is on a two-day working visit to Turkmenistan, said.

"It seems to me there is another vital aspect to all this. The new embassy complex is becoming a symbol of long-term strategic relations between Russia and Turkmenistan and our strategic partnership. The long-term nature of these relations is fixed in the fundamental documents, which our leaders signed at a meeting in Tehran in November last year," Lavrov added.

The official program of Lavrov’s visit to Turkmenistan begins on January 28.

Sergey Lavrov during his talks with Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov due in Ashgabat on January 28 plans to discuss implementation of the agreements reached by the leaders of Russia and Turkmenistan at the summit in Tehran in November 2015.

"During their meeting in Tehran in November the two leaders confirmed firmness of the course for strategic partnership. And, during our Thursday’s talks here in the capital of Turkmenistan we will consider specific issues related to the implementations of the decisions taken by the president," Lavrov said at an opening ceremony of a new Russian embassy complex in Ashgabad on Wednesday. Lavrov arrived here on a two-day working visit.

Trkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov also plans to have talks with his Russian counterpart on Thursday. In his words, the two ministers "will discuss a wide range of bilateral cooperation issues."
