AL KUWAIT, January 13. /TASS/. Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is due to visit Russia in the near future, a source familiar with the situation told TASS on Wednesday.
"Such a visit is planned and may take place very soon," the source said.
Another source told TASS the emir may arrive in Russia already next week, giving no further details on the issues to be discussed during the visit.
In late December, Qatar’s Foreign Minister Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah visited Moscow. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after the talks that Russia and Qatar may assist the "constructive" process of forming a delegation of the Syrian opposition at negotiations with the government.
Another round of talks on Syria will be held in Geneva on January 25. According to the UN, these will be inter-Syrian talks that may be attended by the representatives of the International Syria Support Group.
Geneva will host on Wednesday a meeting on Syria involving the representatives of the United Nations, Russia and the United States.
