Russian diplomat discusses Syria settlement with country’s opposition leader

The sides confirmed the need to resolve the Syrian crisis as soon as possible and to launch the inclusive inter-Syrian peace process under Resolution 2254 of the UN Security Council

MOSCOW, January 12. /TASS/. Russian presidential envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Randa Kassis, a Syrian opposition leader, have discussed by the phone political settlement in Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

"The sides confirmed the need to resolve the Syrian crisis as soon as possible and to launch the inclusive inter-Syrian peace process under Resolution 2254 of the UN Security Council," the Russian Foreign Ministry said, adding that the talks were held on Syria’s initiative.

Earlier on Tuesday Bogdanov discussed the Syrian settlement by the phone with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
