YEKATERINBURG, December 8. /TASS/. A guilty verdict of involvement in the IS terrorist group also known as Daesh sent an Islamic State militant activist to jail for three years and three months on Tuesday, a source at Moscow District Military Court told TASS.
Sentence was handed down on Magomed Gireev by a visiting collegium sitting in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg. He was also fined 200,000 rubles ($2,900).
Investigators and the court found that Gireev had used social networks, including VKontakte, to recruit potential supporters, urging them to go to Syria to join the Jaish al-Muhajireen wal-Ansar terrorist group.
He was tracked and detained during field work by Federal Security Service officers in the Sverdlovsk region.
