Medvedev arrives in Phnom Penh for talks with Cambodian King and PM

Apart from that, according to a source in the Russian delegation, Medvedev plans to visit the city of Siem Reap

PHNOM PENH, November 22. /TASS/. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has arrived in Cambodia, the last stopover on his Asian tour, the press service of the Russian government said on Sunday.

The Russian prime minister will hold talks with his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen and will meet with King Norodom Sihamoni. The talks are expected to yield a number of bilateral documents.

Apart from that, according to a source in the Russian delegation, Medvedev plans to visit the city of Siem Reap.

Cambodia is Russia’s old partner in Southeast Asia. In May 2016, the two countries will mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations. "The forthcoming visit is geared at further strengthening of comprehensive ties between the two states with a focus on expanded trade-and-economic, investment, military technical and humanitarian cooperation," the source said.

The source also noted that the two countries had been maintaining stable political dialogue. A previous meeting between the two countries prime ministers was held on the sidelines of the ninth East Asia summit in November 2014 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. The two countries also maintain inter-parliamentary ties and contact between their ministries and agencies. Three Cambodian deputy prime ministers and a number of ministerial-level delegations have visited Russian in 2015. There are all the grounds to establish closer cooperation between the leading political parties of the two countries.
