Russian lawmakers to visit South Ossetia early December — official

MOSCOW, November 16. /TASS/. A group of Russian senators intends to visit the capital of South Ossetia Tskhinval in early December to hold a meeting of the inter-parliamentary commission there, chairman of the Federation Council international affairs committee Konstantin Kosachev said on Monday.

According to him, a visit to Tskhinval is planned as part of the committee’s offsite meeting in North Ossetia. The meeting will focus on the interaction of regions of the North Caucasus "with the relevant territorial entities, regions and, in some cases, with the neighboring countries located in the South Caucasus."

"We are considering a possibility of organizing within the framework of the offsite meeting a visit to South Ossetia, the city of Tskhinval by a group of members of the international affairs committee and holding a joint meeting of the inter-parliamentary commission," Kosachev said.

He added that 12 parliamentarians had expressed a desire to take part in the trip. The committee’s offsite meeting is to take place between December 2 and December 5.
