Economic pressure on Europe contradicts US ideals of freedom — Russian diplomat

Independent experts, including from the Austrian Institute of Economic Research, are already talking about the minimal damage of €100 billion and 2 million lost jobs, Konstantin Kosachev points out

MOSCOW, October 27 /TASS/. The US economic pressure on the European Union contradicts US ideals of freedom, Konstantin Kosachev, the head of the Russian Federation Council (parliament’s upper house) Committee for International Affairs, said at a meeting of the American-Russian Business Council on Tuesday, the Federation Council’s press service said.

"Such a pressure contradicts in principle the World Trade Organization norms and the US-professed ideals of economic freedom and globalization," the lawmaker said.

"But the real extent of this policy’s consequences for the Europeans — especially in a long-term perspective — will be estimated later. But independent experts, including from the Austrian Institute of Economic Research, are already talking about the minimal damage of €100 billion and 2 million lost jobs," Kosachev added.
