Argentina, Russia working on new agreements - Ryabkov

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov noted that it was premature to talk about the documents’ content and the signing dates

BUENOS AIRES, October 23. /TASS/. Argentina and Russia are discussing the possibility of signing new agreements on cooperation, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told TASS on Thursday.

"We are working on several new bilateral agreements. They relate to various aspects of our cooperation," he said following political consultations in Buenos Aires with Argentina’s Deputy Foreign Minister Eduardo Zuain.

Ryabkov noted that it was premature to talk about the documents’ content and the signing dates. "However, we have made some progress in the course of the consultations," he said, adding that the next round of the consultations was scheduled for next year.

"We were unanimous in the opinion with Mr.Zuain that, regardless of the results of the forthcoming elections in Argentina to be held on October 25, it is necessary to ensure the progressive development of the bilateral relations and the Russian-Argentine cooperation on the international arena," the Russian deputy foreign minister noted.

Ryabkov arrived in Buenos Aires on October 21 to take part in a number of events dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Argentina. October 22, 1885, is considered to be the official date of their establishment. On that day, the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Empire appointed Alexander Ionin, a traveler and writer who travelled around almost the whole of South America, Russia’s Ambassador to Argentina.
