MOSCOW, October 17. /TASS/.Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov has discussed political settlement and fight against terrorism in Syria with representatives of the Syrian opposition - the Committee of Cairo-2 - at a meeting in the Egyptian capital, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said.

"The sides focused closely on the military and political situation within Syria and around it," the Russian foreign ministry said. "A joint opinion was voiced that efforts needed to be intensified with the aim of promoting political settlement of the Syria crisis on the basis of the Geneva communique of June 30, 2012 and that a goal to suppress terrorist groups operating within Syria should be simultaneously solved," the statement says.
