Putin to meet with Russia’s best teachers and have series of working meetings in Sochi

The annual contest Teacher of the Year has been held since 1992 to encourage the most talented teachers and share their experiences with others

SOCHI, October 8. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet on Thursday in Sochi with the winners of the national contest Teacher of the Years, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists.

"The meeting will take place in the premises of the president’s pet project, the Sirius childern’s centre in Sochi," Peskov said, adding that later in the day the president would have "a series of working meetings."

The annual contest Teacher of the Year has been held since 1992 to encourage the most talented teachers and share their experiences with others. The winners and finalists are traditionally received by the Russian president.

This year, 78 school teachers took part in the final stage of the contest. The winner is Sergei Kocherezhko, 25, a teacher of history from the Samara region. He was awarded the main prize - a Crystal Pelikan - on October 5.

The Sirius educational centre for gifted children was established at the initiative of President Putin in Sochi’s Olympic park on the basis of facilities built for the Winter Olympic Games in 2014. Putin is chairman of the centre’s board of trustees.
