Putin notes parliamentarians’ great contribution to developing Eurasian integration

Russian President's statement was read out by the speaker of Russia’s State Duma, the lower house of parliament, Sergey Naryshkin at the forum that opened in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana

ASTANA, October 6. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent greetings to the participants of the international Eurasian Economic Perspective forum underlining the significant contribution of parliamentarians to developing integration processes.

"Parliamentarians make important contribution towards promoting the Eurasian integration," says the statement that was read out by the speaker of Russia’s State Duma, the lower house of parliament, Sergey Naryshkin at the forum that opened on Tuesday in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana.

The forum is due to discuss "important issues linked to developing international ties of the economic union, first of all, in the Asian-Pacific direction," the president said in the statement.

"The project of the Silk Road Economic Belt, proposed by our Chinese partners, is of special interest in this context. I’m sure that during the dialogue with the Chinese parliamentarians you will find the ways of establishing new mechanisms of mutually beneficial cooperation and matching various integration initiatives on the Eurasian space," the statement reads.

The Silk Road Economic Belt is a project of creating a transport, energy and trade corridor between the countries of Asia and Europe. The idea of constructing the Silk Road was put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping in September 2013.

The Russian delegation at the forum will be joined by parliamentarians from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, China; leaders of the Eurasian Economic Commission, SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) Secretariat; and heads of the regions of Russia, Kazakhstan and China, through which the Silk Road will be laid.
