Russia calls for more consistent efforts to reform IMF — Russian foreign minister

NEW YORK, September 27. /TASS/. Moscow calls for more consistent efforts on reforming of global governing bodies, such as the International Monetary Fund [IMF] and the World Bank, by granting a bigger say to developing countries, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday at the United Nations Sustainable Development summit.

"Russia stands for creating a fair global economic order, for better controllability of gloval development. We call to act based on generally recognized norms of international law in the spirit of collective decision-making," he said. "We will expand cooperation with partners in such promising formats and the Group of Twenty and the BRICS. We are open for dialogue within other informal structures, naturally, with due respect to the central coordinating role of the United Nations."

"We thinks it necessary to enhance the efficiency of cooperation between the United Nations General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council [ECOSOC], Bretton Woods institutions and the World Trade Organization (WTO) in the interests of harmonizing management of the global currency, financial and trade systems," Lavrov stressed. "We see a major role in these processes for United Nations specialized structures too.".
