Deputy General Staff chief doesn't rule out creation of Russian Air Force base in Syria

There are no such plans at the moment

NOVOSIBIRSK, September 16. /TASS/. Russian army’s General Staff does not rule out creation in the future of a Russian Air Force base in Syria, First Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff Nikolay Bogdanovsky told reporters on Wednesday.

"There are no such plans [for the base creation] yet. But anything might happen," he said.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest earlier said the US Administration was closely monitoring media reports about the alleged dispatch of Russian Armed Forces units to Syria.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly stated that there are Russian military specialists in Syria to help the Syrian army with the use of armaments and hardware supplied by Russia. The Russian Foreign Ministry and the Kremlin have on numerous occasions stressed that no secret was being made of the fact that Moscow has been supplying weapons to Syria for the fight against terrorism.
