Russia sees no point in using deconfliction channel with US on space issue — diplomat

MOSCOW, April 11. /TASS/. Russia sees no need to use the deconfliction channel with the United States on the space issue, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told reporters.

"Under the conditions when the United States and the US-led NATO are getting more and more directly involved in the events in and around Ukraine, becoming a party to the conflict in the direct sense of the word, we see no need for this kind of contacts along the military line," he said in response to a question.

In February, the US government, including at the level of President Joe Biden, unsubstantiatedly accused Russia of allegedly considering placing nuclear weapons in space. Speaking to reporters, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov called such publications another ploy by the White House. Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a meeting with Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, stressed that Moscow "has always been and is categorically against placing nuclear weapons in space."

Earlier, the media reported that the Pentagon's Space Command would like to have deconfliction channels of communication with Moscow.
