Russian ambassador says US wants weaker Russia, not end of Ukraine conflict

"In America, not a day goes by without accusing our country of all sins - without fact-checking and presenting any evidence," Anatoly Antonov stated

WASHINGTON, April 9. /TASS/. US hawks want to weaken Russia and erase it from the world’s geopolitical map, rather than put an end to the conflict in Ukraine, Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov said.

"It is obvious that Washington hawks don’t need an end to the conflict, but the exhaustion of our country even at the cost of the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians. Or even better: the disappearance of the Russian Federation from the world’s geopolitical map," he said in a statement posted to the embassy's Telegram channel.

The diplomat made the remarks in response to a statement by US Republican Congressman Mike Turner, who alleged that Russia spreads propaganda in the US Congress about assistance to Ukraine.

"In America, not a day goes by without accusing our country of all sins - without fact-checking and presenting any evidence," the ambassador stated.

He said the US ruling class fails to admit the fallacy of the Russia policy after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and highlighted that Turner fiercely criticized his fellow party members that believe NATO’s expansion was the root cause of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.

The diplomat said Russia would continue to stand up for the truth.

"If the truth destroys stereotypes that are convenient and favorable to the US government, it is not our problem. Washington's pained reaction to this work only speaks to its effectiveness," the ambassador said.
