Russia’s General Staff chief slams West for destroying strategic stability’s foundation

Valery Gerasimov noted that the current meeting of the CIS chiefs of the general staff "is taking place against the background of the rapidly changing military and political landscape, which tends to become more complicated"

MOSCOW, April 4. /TASS/. The Western countries are destroying the foundation of the strategic stability, Chief of the Russian General Staff Army General Valery Gerasimov said on Thursday.

"Recent events demonstrate the West's consistent destruction of the basic foundations of the strategic stability and international security institutions," said in opening remarks at a meeting in Moscow of the committee of the general staff chiefs of the armed forces of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member states.

He noted that the current meeting of the CIS chiefs of the general staff "is taking place against the background of the rapidly changing military and political landscape, which tends to become more complicated."

"Not without external assistance, hotbeds of tensions erupt across the planet, and international terrorism, with support from shadowy sponsors, remains a global threat," Gerasimov continued.

According to the senior Russian general, CIS countries, faced with increasingly real and diversified challenges, must have "well-equipped and well-trained armies.".
