Leaders with personal relationships have easier time settling problems — Kremlin spokesman

"Regrettably, now we do not see such political will from today’s politicians and do not hear such words from them," Dmitry Peskov said

MOSCOW, March 28. /TASS/. Leaders who have good personal relationships are better at settling thorny issues in relations between their states, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a briefing when asked to comment on an offer from former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder to assist in achieving peace in Ukraine.

"Good and constructive relations on a personal level can always help resolve issues of interstate communication," the Kremlin spokesman said. "Both former [German] Chancellor [Gerhard Schroeder] and [Russian President Vladimir] Putin have repeatedly proved this."

"This really helped to solve some very difficult issues and ensure the ongoing development of bilateral relations," Peskov added.

"Regrettably, now we do not see such political will from today’s politicians and do not hear such words from them," the spokesman said.

Earlier, Schroeder recalled his friendly relations with Putin in an interview with Germany's DPA news agency. He said he believed it was wrong to forget the positive experience of the past and suggested using it to help settle the conflict in Ukraine.
