Russia accounts for Iceland’s unfriendly moves in bilateral ties — MFA

Maria Zakharova drew attention to the fact that an Iceland-Ukraine agreement on security cooperation is currently being worked out

MOSCOW, March 20. /TASS/. Moscow takes into account Reykjavik's unfriendly actions and rhetoric when assessing bilateral relations, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.

"On March 12, the Icelandic government released a long-term plan to increase assistance to the Kiev regime. It includes financing the purchase of weapons and the training of Ukrainian armed forces fighters," Zakharova said. "Without any doubt, Reykjavik's irresponsible actions and rhetoric are taken into account when assessing our relations with Iceland," she added.

The diplomat drew attention to the fact that an Iceland-Ukraine agreement on security cooperation is currently being worked out. "Iceland is among the countries whose mercenaries came to Ukraine to participate in hostilities and has been training Ukrainian military sailors," she noted.

According to Zakharova, thus "peace-loving Iceland is trying hard to keep up with its senior allies in sponsoring Ukrainian Nazis" without having its own army. "I think it's not so much that Iceland doesn't want to be left behind, I think it's that here is this very aggressive Western community that doesn't want to let it go from its ranks. There is a real sense of codependency," she added.
