Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council congratulates Putin on winning election

DUBAI, March 19. /TASS/. Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Rashad Muhammad al-Alimi has congratulated Vladimir Putin on winning the presidential election in Russia, the Yemen New Agency said.

According to the news agency, in his congratulatory telegram, al-Alimi "on his own behalf and on behalf of the Council members and the government, extended sincere congratulations to Putin and wished him every success while performing his presidential duties, further progress and development to his government and the friendly Russian people."

He also welcomed "Russia’s firm position concerning the Yemeni people" and the "outstanding historical bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and the promising prospects for their development at various levels."

Russia held its first three-day presidential election from March 15-17. According to the Central Election Commission, after 100% of the vote was tallied by local election commissions, incumbent head of state Vladimir Putin won in a landslide victory over his three rivals with 87.28% of the vote. Voter turnout was 77.44%.
