Over 1,200 Russians cast votes on first day of presidential election in Thailand

BANGKOK, March 15. /TASS/. More than 1,200 Russian nationals cast their votes on the first day of the three-day voting in Russian presidential election in Thailand, Russian diplomats told TASS.

The voting was organized at a polling station in the territory of the Russian consulate general in Phuket. It kicked off at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time (1:00 a.m. GMT) on Friday and will continue on Saturday and Sunday from 4:00 a.m. Moscow time to 4:00 p.m. Moscow time.

"As many as 812 people voted at the polling station on Friday. No violations were reported. I think that more people will come to vote tomorrow and the day after tomorrow," Russian Consul General Vladimir Sosnov said.

Field voting was held on the resort island of Samui on Friday. "Turnout was 432 people. The voting was held without violations," Ilya Ilyin, members of the election commission and head of the Russian embassy’s consular department, said.

On March 16, field voting will be organized in the resort city of Pattaya, at the Royal Cliff Grand Hotel Pattaya hotel, from 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Moscow time (2:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. GMT). In Bangkok, voting will be held at the Russian embassy from 4:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Moscow time on March 17.

The Russian Federation Council, or upper house of parliament, officially designated March 17, 2024 as the day of the presidential election. The Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) then announced that voting will take place over three days on March 15-17.
