SUKHUM, December 30. /TASS/. Issues of bilateral relations were the focus of a telephone call between Abkhazian President Aslan Bzhania and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the press service of the Abkhazian president said.

"Aslan Bzhania held a phone call with Sergey Lavrov. Lavrov congratulated Bzhania on the coming New Year and Christmas and wished him good health and prosperity. The Russian foreign minister expressed the hope that Abkhazian-Russian relations in the coming year will develop in the interests of the peoples of the two countries," it said.

Bzhania, in turn, also congratulated Lavrov on the coming holidays and pledged that his country "stays committed to bilateral relations based on the principles of allied ties and strategic partnership," the press service said.
