Parliamentary speakers from Russia, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, China to meet in early 2024

MOSCOW, December 15. /TASS/. The speakers of the parliaments of Russia, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and China will hold a meeting on countering international terrorism and developing interregional cooperation in early 2024, Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) parliamentary faction, said.

"We will hold at the beginning of the year our traditional meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of Russia, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and China on countering international terrorism and developing cooperation between regions," the senior lawmaker said at a plenary session of the State Duma, or lower house of Russia’s parliament, the Federal Assembly.

Slutsky also added that, "ahead is the resumption of the format of the International Forum for the Development of Parliamentarism, which is already one of the most widely covered parliamentary forums on the planet."

"From the New Year, Russia will assume the presidency of the largest integration bloc on the planet - BRICS. We are close to creating a full-fledged parliamentary dimension of BRICS. We have a number of initiatives ready here, which [Russian] President [Vladimir Putin] and I will talk about today," the head of the State Duma committee added.
