MOSCOW, October 26. /TASS/. Moscow, in its interaction with Yerevan, hopes to obtain information as to what Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had in mind, speaking of the need to "diversify relationships in the security sphere," Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
Earlier, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Pashinyan said that "these events [in Nagorno-Karabakh] have essentially brought us to a decision that we need to diversify our relationships in the security sphere."
"In this case, we are not inclined to perceive the Wall Street Journal as the primary source so it is still necessary to completely understand what Mr. Pashinyan was exactly talking about," the Kremlin official noted. "And, of course, in a conversation with our Armenian friends, we are hoping to receive the complete information on this matter. And, certainly, it does not befit Russia and Armenia to communicate via newspapers, especially the Wall Street Journal. So we continue the conversation, the dialogue with our Armenian friends, and we will continue to do so, we have a very extensive agenda," he said.
Additionally, Putin’s press secretary stressed that the Russian side continues efforts "to help Baku and Yerevan to finally reach the signing of a peace treaty." "This is necessary to stabilize the situation in the region and to reach a more positive, productive quality of life in the entire region," Peskov concluded.
In his interview, Pashinyan also noted that Yerevan is not currently discussing Russia withdrawing its military base from Armenia while analyzing Moscow and the Collective Security Treaty Organization’s (CSTO) recent actions. He added that Armenia will remain in the CSTO because the sides are in the process of clarifying their positions.
