Russia praises North Korea for words of support regarding special operation — diplomat

Maria Zakharova pointed out that North Korea’s statements are not just a "political slogan," but a well-grounded stance

MOSCOW, February 1. /TASS/. Moscow is grateful to Pyongyang for its support in the context of the special military operation in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday, commenting on the statements of Kim Yo-Jong, North Korea’s vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

Earlier, Kim Yo-Jong, North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un’s sister, said that Pyongyang would always "stand in the same trench, together with the army and the people of Russia" and slammed the US decision to send Abrams tanks to Ukraine as "a vile step."

"You know, this is a very realistic evaluation of Washington and its satellites’ actions that are aimed at escalating the Ukraine conflict. We do appreciate this consistent and well-reasoned support for our country in the context of the special military operation," Zakharova said.

The Russian diplomat pointed out that North Korea’s statements are not just a "political slogan," but a well-grounded stance.

"As a matter of fact, many other countries have a similar attitude, as some of them speak out openly, but some refrain from public solidarity with us solely due to the blackmail and pressure put on them by Washington. Therefore, Pyongyang merely showed its sovereign, courageous and resolute voice in the international arena," the diplomat concluded.
