MOSCOW, November 27. /TASS/. The leadership and staff of the Russian Foreign Ministry are deeply grieved at the death of Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei, says a ministry’s statement circulated on Sunday.

"The Russian Foreign Ministry’s leadership and staff deeply mourn in connection with the untimely death of Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Vladimirovich Makei on November 26," the ministry said.

In a release it is noticed that Vladimir Makei was a true friend of Russia, who made a unique contribution to the development of bilateral cooperation. "Vladimir Vladimirovich Makei was a true friend of Russia, who made a unique contribution to the comprehensive development of bilateral cooperation, the integrative construction of the Union State, the strengthening of ties between the fraternal peoples of Russia and Belarus," the ministry wrote.

"An outstanding diplomat and statesman, a true patriot who devoted his life to serving his homeland and protecting its interests in the international arena, has passed away," the statement stressed.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has sent a telegram to the wife of his Belarusian counterpart, who died on Saturday, extending condolences to his family, the Foreign Ministry went on to say.

"Vladimir Vladimirovich Makei will forever remain in our hearts as a man of a broad soul and deep wisdom, a brilliant professional, a teammate and loyal friend, who has earned love and respect not only from the citizens of his country, but also far beyond Belarus," the Foreign Ministry stressed.
