Moscow to continue providing assistance to South Ossetia under new president

On May 8, Alan Gagloyev won the runoff presidential elections in South Ossetia

TSKHINVAL, May 24. /TASS/. Russia will continue providing comprehensive assistance to South Ossetia under a new president, including in ensuring national security, a senior Russian official said at the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday.

"Russia, for its part, will continue providing all available assistance to its South Ossetian friends in addressing their social and economic developmental needs, as well as ensuring national security," said Igor Maslov, head of the Russian Presidential Administration for Interregional and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries.

"Russia respects South Ossetia’s democratic choice and looks forward to carrying on improving all-round cooperation between the two countries," Maslov noted.

Alan Gagloyev won the runoff presidential elections in South Ossetia on May 8, and was sworn in as president on Tuesday. He received 56.09% of the vote.
