Russian diplomat discusses bilateral relations with Portugal's officials

MOSCOW, April 18. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko has held consultations in Lisbon with Portugal's Secretary of State for European Affairs Ana Paula Zacarias and Director General for Foreign Policy Pedro Sanchez da Costa Pereira, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

"The sides comprehensively exchanged opinion on issues of European security, Russia's relations with the EU and NATO. Special attention was paid to the situation at the Council of Europe and looking for ways to overcome [the crisis] in this organization," the foreign ministry said.

The sides also discussed regional issues in Ukraine, around Venezuela, as well as Syrian settlement and the situation in the Middle East in general.

"They discussed in detail the possibilities of further developing Russian-Portuguese relations, noted the important role of regular political dialogue, the importance of strengthening the legal base. They also reviewed the schedule of preparations for events celebrating the 240th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Russia and Portugal," the foreign ministry noted.
