DOHA, April 7. /TASS/. Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin has accused the US of conducting an aggressive foreign policy during his speech at the assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Qatar.
"Today, one of the great modern challenges is the substitution of international law with one-off decisions. Ignoring the interests of other countries and people, as well as the realization of the "right of the powerful" is a direct path towards conflicts and wars," Volodin said.
According to Volodin, "one does not need to look very far for an example." "With a stroke of his pen, disregarding the UN’s approach and decisions, the US president has recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights. The precarious peace in the Middle East is on the brink of collapse. The international community falls victim to such policies. What it can lead to, we can remember from history," the Russian speaker pointed out.
"It has been twenty years since the NATO bombings of Belgrade. Since then, we have witnessed the Iraq War, the destruction of Libya’s statehood, the attempts to overthrow the legitimate government in Syria with the aid of terrorists. Who’s next? Venezuela?" the Russian politician asked.
Volodin also accused the US of deliberately undermining Venezuela’s economy: "$30 bln, which belong to the Venezuelan people, have been blocked, or virtually stolen, trade sanctions have been introduced; cyberattacks on the infrastructure are carried out," the speaker stated.
He called on the IPU states "not to remain indifferent, thinking that this only concerns the Middle East, North Africa or some Latin American countries." "This can happen to absolutely any country," he stressed.
