DOHA, April 6. /TASS/. Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani voiced his support to Moscow’s foreign policy in the Middle East, Russia’s State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin told reporters on Saturday after his talks with the emir.
"Qatar’s Emir expressed his support to the steps taken by [Russia’s President] Vladimir Putin in the Middle East," said Volodin, head of the official delegation of the State Duma (the lower house of Russia’s parliament) that had arrived in Doha.
Volodin conveyed the Russian president’s greetings to the emir.
According to Volodin, "the emir highly praised the level of relations between Russia and Qatar."
"He highly appreciated the development of inter-parliamentary relations between our countries and focused his attention on the efforts, taken by MPs and the State Duma’s foreign affairs committee, so as to build relations at an inter-parliamentary level and to promote new forms of cooperation," the speaker added.
The official visit to Doha by the State Duma delegation led by Vyacheslav Volodin is taking place on April 6-7. The speaker will attend the 140th IPU Assembly and will deliver a speech at the plenary session. In addition, several bilateral meetings are scheduled.
