Lavrov highlights need to restore the situation on eastern bank of Euphrates

ANTALYA /Turkey/, March 29. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said it is essential to restore the situation on the eastern bank of the Euphrates that existed prior to the United States’ invasion of Syria. He was speaking at a joint news conference with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu on Friday following meeting of the joint Strategic Planning Group.

"Speaking about the eastern bank of the Euphrates, the United States should withdraw its forces from there, in accordance with its statements. Also, it is necessary to restore the situation that evolved there historically, before the United States invaded Syria’s territory," Lavrov said. "I mean the return of the territories to the Arab tribes where they had lived for centuries."

"This is important for completing the tasks outlined in [UN Security Council] Resolution 2254," the minister added.
