Russian deputy foreign minister calls for lesser role of dollar in global economy

"We need to abandon the dollar and, therefore, to increase the protection of our economies against arbitrary actions by Washington," Sergei Ryabkov said

ROME, March 19. /TASS/. National economies will be better protected against Washington's arbitrary actions if their governments stop using the US dollar, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Tuesday, commenting on new US sanctions against Venezuela.

"We, for example, believe that US sanctions, which are becoming more and more frequent, including attempts to garrote whole nations with economic restrictions, will force many politicians and economic entities to review their attitude to the role of the US dollar," the Russian diplomat said.

"We need to abandon the dollar and, therefore, to increase the protection of our economies against arbitrary actions by Washington, which abuses the special role of its national currency and national credit and financial institutions," Ryabkov added.
