Putin: Russia to do utmost preventing terrorist acts similar to New Zealand’s tragedy

According to the latest reports, 50 people were killed and 50 more wounded in the terrorist attack in Christchurch

SIMFEROPOL, March 18. /TASS/. The aim of the terrorist attack in New Zealand against Muslims last week was to undermine the situation in the country and Russia will do everything possible to prevent such acts of terrorism on its territory, President Vladimir Putin said on Monday.

"We certainly condole over victims in New Zealand following this terrible terrorist act, which was definitely aimed to undermine the situation in the country," Putin said. "We will do everything possible to prevent such situations in our country."

He said the Russian authorities are well aware of the danger of such terrorist attacks. "We know how dangerous terrorist sorties are in any direction. But I want to express hope that our society will have enough common sense and stamina to go through any trials," the president said.

Last Friday, armed assailants entered two neighboring mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, right after the day prayer and blocked the doors. The witnesses say that hundreds of people were still in the mosques when the attack occurred. According to the latest reports, 50 people were killed and 50 more wounded in the terrorist attack.
