Islamic State stepping up activity in Libya, warns Russian diplomat

MOSCOW, February 19. /TASS/. Terrorist organizations Islamic State and Al-Qaeda (both outlawed in Russia) have been building up ties in Libya, Russia’s special presidential representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told the Middle East conference of the discussion club Valdai.

"The Islamic State has been stepping up its activity in Libya, including Tripoli," he said. "The group is strengthening links with Al Qaeda."
