No evidence of Russia’s meddling in Macedonian affairs has been shown, says Lavrov

"We have been accused on meddling in the issue of renaming Macedonia, though no facts have been shown to us," Russian Foreign Minister said

MUNICH, February 16. /TASS/. No evidence of Russia’s meddling in the matter of renaming Macedonia has been shown, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.

"We have been accused on meddling in the issue of renaming Macedonia, though no facts have been shown to us," he said.

The agreement on changing the country’s name to the Republic of Northern Macedonia (the Prespa agreement) was signed on the shores of Lake Prespa by the foreign ministers of Macedonia and Greece on June 17, 2018. The ratification of the document marked the end of the dispute between Macedonia and Greece over the name of the former Yugoslav republic, which had dragged on for over twenty years, as well as paves the way for Skopje to NATO and EU.
