US violates non-proliferation treaty, says Russian foreign minister

Russian Foreign ministry is concerned about the US’ approach to its liabilities on such a universal treaty

MOSCOW, February 2. /TASS/. Russia is concerned about the US’ violations of the Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Saturday when reporting to President Vladimir Putin on Washington’s actions running counter to international agreements on strategic stability and global security, including the withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty).

"We are concerned about the US’ approach to its liabilities on such a universal treaty as the Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons as despite numerous reminders, the United States commits major violations of that Treaty within the NATO framework," he said.

"Though the Treaty stipulates liabilities of nuclear-armed powers not to shift respective technologies on nuclear weapons use, NATO conducts the so-called joint nuclear missions, within which the United States together with five NATO states on whose territory the American nuclear weapons are deployed, practices nuclear weapons use with participation of countries that do not belong to the ‘nuclear five’," Lavrov explained, adding that he considers that "a direct violation of the Treaty on Non-Proliferation.".
