MOSCOW, February 1. /TASS/. The Kremlin is ready to consider a message from Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido once it arrives, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
"We haven’t received any messages so far. If and when a message arrives, we will consider it," he said, commenting on Guaido’s statements about messages he had sent to Russia and China with promises to adopt a responsible approach to Venezuela’s debts in case of a government change. Guaido added that Russia and China would benefit from a government change as Venezuela’s main foreign creditors.
The Kremlin spokesman pointed out that Juan Guaido was the Venezuelan parliament speaker. "We do not consider him as head of state, we don’t recognize him as such. Mr. Nicolas Maduro is the head of state and his government is our partner in Venezuela," he stressed.
At the same time, according to Peskov, Moscow expects that cooperation with Caracas will continue regardless of political developments. "In any case, regardless of the political situation in this country, we hope and plan to boost our trade and economic ties and mutually beneficial cooperation," Peskov said.
The Russian presidential spokesman noted that political developments in Venezuela were the country’s internal affair. "Everything that is happening in Venezuela is Venezuela’s internal affair. The main thing is to protect the country from foreign interference," he said.
