Russian, US diplomats to scale up dialogue on DPRK, says ministry

Earlier Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov said that he had invited US Special Envoy for North Korea Stephen Biegun to visit Moscow

MOSCOW, January 26. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov and US Special Envoy for North Korea Stephen Biegun agreed to scale up the dialogue between the two countries on the Korean Peninsula issue during Friday’s consultations in Washington, Russia’s ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

"The recent developments around the Korean Peninsula and efforts of all involved states to settle the problems of the sub-region were discussed in detail," the statement said.

"It was decided to continue scaling up the Russian-US dialogue on the Korean issue both in bilateral and multi-sided formats to fix the political and diplomatic process," the ministry emphasized.

Earlier Morgulov said that he had invited Biegun to visit Moscow, while his deputy Mark Lambert might visit Russia in February or March.
