Putin to meet with Moldova’s president next week — Kremlin

The Kremlin confirms Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with his Moldovan counterpart Igor Dodon next week

MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin, as planned, will meet with his Moldovan counterpart Igor Dodon next week.

"Contacts with Dodon are indeed being prepared next week," Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters. He noted that "permanent communication continues, many issues, including trade and economic cooperation, are always on the agenda."

Dodon earlier said he would travel to Moscow next week where he planned to discuss with the Russian president export problems related to the restrictions in imports of some goods through Ukraine imposed on January 1. "There are some problems with the transit of our goods through Ukraine. That is why we talked with our partners in Moscow and agreed to meet with Vladimir Putin next week," Moldova’s president said.

He recalled that Russia had abolished import duties on a number of Moldovan goods as of January 1, 2019, to implement the agreements reached by the two presidents earlier. However, another government decree, which imposed a ban on imports of Ukrainian goods to Russia and imports from other countries transported to Russia through Ukraine, came into force on January 1.

Dodon pointed out that he had sent a letter to Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, in which he asked him to consider ways of the situation.
