Russian national extradited to US on charges of wire fraud conspiracy — embassy

The Russian Embassy in Washington said Russian national Alexander Zhukov was extradited to the US from Bulgaria on 18 January

WASHINGTON, January 19. /TASS/. Russian national Alexander Zhukov has been extradited to the United States from Bulgaria over charges of committing advertising fraud and is currently held at a prison in New York, the Russian Embassy in Washington, DC wrote on its official Twitter account on Friday.

Russian diplomats from the Consulate General in New York will soon visit Zhukov in prison, the Russian embassy said.

"According to the Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, on 18 January 2019 Russian national [Alexander] Zhukov was extradited to the United States from Bulgaria. The Russian citizen was charged with wire fraud conspiracy," the embassy said. "Zhukov is currently held at a prison in Brooklyn, New York. Representatives of the Russian Consulate General in New York will soon visit him in prison. He will be provided with necessary consular assistance," the embassy added.

Alexander Zhukov was detained in Bulgaria in November 2018 on the request of the United States. Zhukov was charged with wire fraud conspiracy along with five other Russian nationals - Boris Timokhin, Denis Avdeyev,, Dmitry Novikov, Alexander Isaev, and Mikhail Andreyev. Two Kazakhstani nationals - Yevgeny Timchenko and Sergey Ovsyannikov - were also charged with wire fraud conspiracy in the same case.
