Russia appreciates Iraq’s assistance in evacuation of Russian children — foreign ministry

On Saturday, a special flight from Baghdad brought back to Moscow 30 children whose parents joined terrorist organizations in the Middle East

MOSCOW, December 30. /TASS/. Russia hails the high level of cooperation with the Iraqi authorities and appreciates their assistance in evacuating Russian children whose parents joined terrorist organizations, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

On Saturday, a special flight from Baghdad brought back 30 children who had been kept at Iraqi prisons with their mothers. Twenty-four of them are from Dagestan, three are from Chechnya, and the rest are from Moscow and Penza.

"We note with satisfaction the high level of cooperation with Iraqi court and executive authorities during this humanitarian operation. We highly appreciate the understanding demonstrated by our Iraqi partners and their support. We hope for their further assistance in addressing issues of evacuation of Russian children who still staying in Iraq," the foreign ministry said.

According to the Russian children’s rights ombudsperson, about 700 Russian minors were brought by their parents to the Middle East.
