Russian ambassador to China calls shipbuilding promising area of bilateral cooperation

According to Andrei Denisov, China is "actively moving into the market of a specialized class of vessels related to mining on the seabed"

BEIJING, December 26. / TASS /. The shipbuilding and electronics industries have the potential for cooperation between Russia and China, said Russian ambassador to China Andrei Denisov on Wednesday.

"Where we have not yet used the possibilities of industrial cooperation, and where there is clearly a basis for it, is shipbuilding," said Denisov.

According to him, "a program for the construction of ice-class vessels is currently being implemented in China in connection with the well-known projects for the development of the Northern Sea Route, which are still at the initial stage." "If anyone has a real icebreaking fleet, real developments in this regard, including the nuclear icebreaking fleet, it is our country," Denisov continued. "Therefore, the cooperation is quite possible in this narrow segment," he stressed.

Denisov explained that "China, among other things, is actively moving into the market of a specialized class of vessels related to mining on the seabed." "This is also an interesting area of cooperation," the ambassador added. "As a maritime country, China can express interest from tankers to yachts." According to the head of the Russian diplomatic mission, another promising sector for bilateral cooperation is the field of electronics. "We relied on imports for quite a long time, it has now become clear that we need to develop our microelectronics," he said.

Denisov noted that "under the cover of far-fetched reasons, and in fact in order to gain some competitive advantages, the West began to restrict the leading Chinese manufacturers and exporters of modern electronic equipment". "It is quite possible that this will serve as a factor stimulating our cooperation in this area with the Chinese, who, as we see, have quite seriously advanced and occupied leading positions in the world in many respects," he said.
